quickie quickerson

It's Friday...YESSSSSS.

1. I just ordered these holiday cards...and you all get the first peek! Happy holidays (a little early, but eh, whaddayagonnado) to all of my sweet blogging friends :)
I was playing with the background choices, and decided on this one, and went back to look at last year's choice, and BAM!

Same background two years in a row. I liked it so much I chose it twice! If you're a new follower, that right there is Cheeks (aptly named right?).  He's cute, so I think we'll keep him.
2. I made our little house into clipart! I have no idea what I would use this for, but it was fun and I'm sure it will be nostalgic in a few years :) Ideas on what to do with it?I mean, other than printing and popping it in a little frame?

3.  It finally snowed for realzies this week! What does that mean for a Juneau-ite?  Managing the snow. Shoveling a driveway after work is a pain in the back pockets (can you tell I teach 2nd?).  Cheeks is now obsessed with the stuff and wants to cry about having cold hands while refusing to wear "glubs" help shovel.

blast from the past

This post was about a week after I started blogging back in March...I'm having a Donuts with Dads Dudes in a month (Donuts, Dudes, December...Muffins, Moms Madams, makes it easier for me to remember!), I can't wait to see what kinds of donuts are made (I will be sure to post pics) in a few weeks.

Can you believe there are only a few weeks if school left? Where has the year gone?!  I am so sad it is almost over...I am just loving this class and will really miss them. Before the year ends, I knew I needed to make something for my awesome dads (they must have felt so left out when Mom brought home that cute muffin craftivity!).  I've created a Donuts with Dudes craftivity to match my Muffins with Moms craftivity...what do you think?  What I love about these cuties is they could be used for Mother's/Father's Day also.  Click the images to download via TpT.
This was my fourth year doing a Muffins with Moms event. We read If You Give a Moose a Muffin by Laura Numeroff, followed by If You Give a Mom a Muffin (a funny spinoff poem) and then made these cute lil muffin craftivities for each Mom (complete with thumbprint cheeks!). These ones crack. me. up.

"If you give my Mom a muffin, she would ask for a napkin because she is messy!"
".....she would need a cup of coffee because muffins are dry."
".....she will ask for a glass of milk because she wants a mustache."

Can you say ca-ute!!!

You can download the Muffins with Moms Craftivity from my TpT store by clicking the image below:

I'd love to hear from you! What sorts of activities do you do for your Muffins with Moms event or Mother's Day gifts?

I thought this would be random, but a good time to share my teaching portfolio.  When I graduated from our program (2008), it was suggested by our advisor that we give principals we are interviewing for a binder with all of our education essays and lesson plans.  Knowing that principals are crazy-busy and would most likely never open such a thing, I made the wise decision not to do that.  I used iPhoto and created a book portfolio that had the basics from my binder (I added photos to my essays and sectioned the whole thing by my references, resume, teaching philosophy, classroom management, lesson plans, etc.).  I'm going to toot my own horn because this is a GENIUS idea by me.  There are many more options nowadays for this type of portfolio...iPhoto allows you to change the font size for instance! Or you can even use Shutterfly or some other photo album creator.  Either way, it's a great way to make yourself a little more presentable and memorable.
Also, I made this Proud Peacock craftivity to do at the end of the year.  We will write about our accomplishments and proudest moments of the year! They saw me making the examples and were so excited...who knew peacocks were so popular?!

gettin down on friday

We had Monday off and for the first time in a long time, it actually felt like a day off! We took a little road trip to a nearby beach and, even though it was cold, watched the sun come up. Cheeks had a blast finding shells to stick in his dump truck...he is such a boy. And yes, he's in his pjs. We all were :)
A sweet friend took a snapshot of this for me. I still get excited, even if it is randomly generated :) TpT, you changed my life.
Mr.Tongass and I are planning on having Thanksgiving at our house this year (a first for us). It will probably just be my parents and maybe my nieces and my younger brother, but I'm super excited anyway. I am not a chef in the least, but I love the other part of entertaining, so this is right up my alley. I found these a few weeks ago (I'm a vegetarian), and they are soooo much better than the Tofurkey or Quorn roasts that I've had in the past. My husband (not a vegetarian, but not afraid of faux--meat products---we call it "feat" haha) will be deep frying a turkey.  I went back to get more (there are only 2 per bag) for Thanksgiving, but they were all sold out already! If you're a vegetarian, you might want to keep your eye out for them!

freebie dump

I have been super busy these last few days. Thursday, I had a Teacher Work Day (no kids) and prepped for conferences and report cards all day. Friday, I had back to back conferences all day (preachin to the choir, I know). Saturday, grocery shopping and a play date (where I got to meet my friend's brand new baby...weird to hold a newborn again!). Sunday, a family photo shoot at the glacier, complete with our dog (who turned 10 the same day). And somehow, in between all the craziness, I was able to get *some* work done! I'm looking forward to next weekend, when I plan on being as lazy as a ladybug.

And do you take a class holiday photo? I do this every year and send them out to families and volunteers. Here's an old one so you can see what I mean.  We are all wearing gift bows (I even put a bow on my tummy because I was pregnant with Cheeks!).
Those letters have always been, well, blah. So, I spruced them up for this year's photo using my own clipart frames (another FREEBIE below!). You can download the new letters by clicking below.
And I also made these Winter first attempt at frames! What do you think? They're free for now, click below to download!
