is it february yet?!

It's been a loooong time since I linked up for a Five for Friday...so let's get right to it!

1.  In honor of the big commercials game most of us will be watching on Sunday, we made these Football Friend Craftivities!  The kids were so funny about making a prediction about who they thought would win! I waited until after they told me who their prediction was before I put up the colors. I had to laugh when I heard a little peep after they voted, "Can I change mine? I feel sorry for the Seahawks..." Of course you can! Too cute! I've updated this craft, but you can find it here.
2. We had MAP Testing this week. For the most part, I find MAP testing pretty valuable. This year, we've used these laptop carts and students just sit at their regular desks to take their test. In the past, we've gone to the computer lab, which puts our whole school's Intervention schedule out of whack for a while and just sort of a pain in the butt. Having the ability to pick up a laptop and move it to a corner desk because a student is off-task and bugging their neighbor is SWEEEET. I vote laptops from now on :)

3. My sweet new coworker got this lovely note on her desk and I had to snap a pic. The picture on the left is the student yelling at the teacher that she owes him $100 (he wrote cents though!) for making him mad. Wouldn't that be nice if that's how life worked?! She's such a sweetheart and even though I laughed when I saw it, my heart goes out to her (and all of us) that deal with this on a regular basis. I know I'm preachin to the choir here, but THESE ARE THE KIDS THAT NEED US THE MOST!

4.  We just finished our Addition and Subtraction chapters (my district uses Math in Focus). A game that students love to play to practice double digit subtraction with regrouping is Race to Zero (or Race to 100 for addition).  They forget some of the directions (as well as some expectations I added), so I made an anchor chart.
And storage idea isn't my idea, but it is so useful! I added the number line (with velcro on the undersides of each end to stick to carpet--read more about my Math management here), dice and game markers to make the transition to game playing easier.

And I keep this poster handy just in case :) You can read more about my Math Workshop here

5. And I finally snapped a pic of this audio center. This headphone splitter is AWESOME. 5 headphones listening to the same audio story...easy peasy.

6. and I'm breaking the five rule because this is just 1 more I had to share...we had a mini lesson on "titles" during Writing Workshop and this is the cutest title for a story about a birthday!

My store will be on sale this weekend Saturday and Sunday only! I know many of you have been waiting for an excuse to buy more clipart...this is a good opportunity :)

  1. We have been testing on the computers for the first time this year. We are testing on iPads and laptops, and I love that I can move the students anywhere in the classroom to test instead of keeping them confined to a desk right beside someone else!
